This is it!  You and I are now at Number One!  I love fun and exciting places to visit, but I love food just a little bit more.  This place always keeps me coming back for more. 

Murray’s Bagels

 

Murray’s is well-known for its traditional bagels and cream cheese smear. Here’s a link to their menu:  http://www.murraysbagels.com/menus/Menu.pdf. A personal favorite is Thursdays Chicken Salad Sandwich on an ‘Everything’ bagel for roughly $7, drink included.  Yum! It’s # 1 on my list because the service is always good, the food absolutely delicious—I always walk away full and, the best part, it fits perfectly into my budget! It can’t get better than that.

500 Avenue of the Americans between 12th & 13th Street

Transit: 

Subway: Take the F, 1, 2, 3, L and get off at 14^th Street and 6^th Avenue walk south on 6^th Avenue

242 8^th Avenue between 23^rd & 22^nd Street

Transit:  

Subway: Take the C,E get off 23^rd Street and head South on 8^th Avenue or

Take the 1 get off on 23^rd St and 7^th Avenue and head West (towards 8^th Ave.) and South at 8^th Avenue

The Adventures of A One To World Intern: A Touching Number Two

You cannot live in New York City without paying homage to this place.  It is eloquent, quiet and very historic.  Number two on the countdown goes to: 

The 9-11 Memorial

If you haven’t had a chance to visit the 9-11 Memorial, take some time to do so.  It is free, but you have to reserve a certain time slot and they can book up relatively quickly.  Click on the following link to secure a visitor pass:  http://www.911memorial.org/visitor-passes.  As the 10^th Anniversary of the 9-11 attacks was in 2011, visiting this sacred place really connected the heartache of that day and New York City’s determination to heal and move forward.  The remembrance fountains are a sight to be seen and definitely something everyone should see at least once.

A, C, J, Z, 2, 3, 4, or 5 trains to Fulton Street: exit onto Fulton St. and walk west to Church St. walk south and turn right on Thames St.

E train to World Trade Center: exit onto Church St. Walk south and turn right on Thames St.
R train to Rector Street: exit onto Trinity Pl. Walk north and turn left on Thames St.

The Adventures of a One To World Intern Roll On

Hello, fellow adventurers! I'm excited to keep moving down my list of Top 5 Favorite Things in NYC.  Here we are half way through the list, so without further ado here is Number Three:

 

Grand Central Station

 

I bet you are surprised that a train terminal is on my list.  If you do anything in this city, you have to give Grand Central a few hours of your day.  The main East side transportation hub has different shops, fun lunch spots and a lot of history.  When you walk into the main terminal and see the beauty inside, it takes your breath away.  

The ceiling is covered with famous constellations and at the very center, when you look closely there is a hole in the ceiling.  It’s from the Redstone missile that was showcased in Grand Central Station in 1957.  Someone misjudged the height and they had to cut out a hole to fit the tip of the missile inside the terminal.  It has never been painted over and remains a testimony to the changing times this city has experienced.  

Take a walk down the Oyster Bar Ramp to the “Whispering Gallery” and listen carefully, you can hear the whispers of those passing by.  To read more about Grand Central Station and the "Whispering Gallery" check out their Walking Tour Highlights: http://www.grandcentralterminal.com/info/walkingtour.cfm.  This is a very unique experience and definitely worth the visit!

The Adventures of A One To World Intern: The Countdown Continues with Number 4

The countdown continues with a trip to the Hudson for endless opportunities of fun with adventure number four:

Chelsea Piers

 My personal highlights start at 23^rd street and 12^th Avenue.  You can walk all along the different piers look at the beautiful boats and see the gorgeous Manhattan skyline with Lady Liberty off in the distance.  There are restaurants with food for all taste buds, from the 300 grill located in the fun and hip 300 Bowling Alley to the Chelsea Brewing House with over 20 hand-crafted brews.  Chelsea Piers also has an extended running and biking trail from Battery Park to the Upper West Side.

I recommend starting at Pier 64 where 23^rd Street and 12^th Avenue meet to see the Manhattan skyline at its best.

Transit:  
Subway Line 1 get off on 23^rd street and walk West  (towards 8^th Avenue)

Subway Line C,E get off on 23^rd street and walk West towards 9^th Avenue (there’s also free art galleries you can check out while on your walk) 
Bus M23-Crosstown drops you off at 23^rd Street and 11^th Avenue

Off The Tourist Path: Top 5 Things To Do In New York City

Greetings Everyone! I’m Danielle, one of the new interns here at One To World.  I’m from Texas, so I know a little about adjusting to this big city and finding things that fit my budget as I’m also a full-time Graduate student.  In this special blog series, I’ll give you the Top 5 things that I have found to be really unique and wallet-friendly.  I will continue this count down every other day for the next 2 weeks so be sure to keep checking back!

  Hook and Ladder 8—Ghostbusters Headquarters

 Who Ya Gonna Call? GHOSTBUSTERS!  New York City is a famous host to thousands of films.  One of them was the 1984 phenomenon, Ghostbusters.  The original firehouse headquarters, Hook & Ladder 8 is a hop, skip and jump away in TriBeCa.  How many people can say that they took a picture at one of the most memorable movie sites in cinema history?  Ghostbusters HQ is also really close to our office here at 285 West Broadway, so pop in for a quick hello, as well.  Just remember to say, “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts.”
